After ten consecutive matches he had only made 193 runs and was subsequently dropped from the side and went off to play League cricket for a period in mid- season, returning in the middle of July when he had slightly more success, scoring three fifties. Lancashire had a most successful year and won the County Championship for the fourth time in five seasons.
