By the end of the season, he had played in eleven games, finishing with 82 wickets at an average of 23.69, his six Sheffield Shield games costing 28.13 at 43 wickets apiece. Bowling over 150 overs more than any other bowler, the next most successful bowler was A.Hurwood with 46 wickets. Grimmett took five or more wickets in his first four matches, his 6-61 against the MCC being followed by 7-173 in a Test Trial game, which gave him match figures of 10-241. He took 10-227 in a five-wicket victory over New South Wales, before taking 6-146 against Queensland. After three games without a five wicket haul, he took five or more wickets in each of his last four games, his best being 10-210 against the third member of the Sheffield Shield, Victoria. By the end of the season he had taken five wickets on nine occasions and ten on three occasions in his eleven matches. He also recorded the seventh half-century of his career, scoring 53 against Queensland. His total of 82 wickets placed him third in the all-time Australian list behind Turner’s 106 and Giffen’s 93.
