Wisden said Perrin ‘retained his ability almost unimpaired’, and added that ‘his steadiness often saved the side from complete disaster.’ He batted fifth in the order almost throughout the season and reached the thousand runs target during the August Bank Holiday match at Worcester. His innings there of 122, playing ‘exceptionally well’, was obtained in a fourth wicket partnership of 256 with C.A.G Russell. It was only the fourth 250 partnership of Perrin’s career. His 79* in 150 minutes against Gloucestershire in early May; his 55* in 110 minutes against Worcestershire at the Whitsun Bank Holiday, facing Fred Root bowling leg-theory; and his 102* in 260 minutes against Lancashire in July, were all sheet anchor affairs. He did not bat in the second innings after his 122 at Worcester and thereafter found runs hard to come by. Against Cambridge University at Colchester, Perrin was involved in a dispute early in his innings and facing a University total of 332, he failed to ‘walk’ when, with the umpire unsighted, he was clearly caught at gully: he went on to make 70. When he was tackled about the incident some years later, he replied, according to E.W.Swanton, ‘Oh yes, that: I shouldn’t have done it against the varsity’. Perrin was always more Spartan than Corinthian. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 449.
