Perrin failed to reach a thousand runs, but his performances were consistent, with nine scores of fifty or more in 31 innings. Wisden thought Perrin had lost some of his brilliancy, but added that he was ‘still the best class batsman in the team’, in spite of the greater numerical returns of Russell and J.R.Freeman. His best performance of the season was his 140 off Surrey on Midsummer’s Day at Leyton, when with F.H.Gillingham, he added 240 in 200 minutes for the third wicket. Square cuts were a feature of this innings, which included fifteen fours. At the end of August, Perrin did not play in the Lancashire match at Old Trafford, even though he had travelled north for the Yorkshire match at Bradford earlier in the week, when he had added 161 in 150 minutes for the third wicket with F.L.Fane in the Essex second innings.
