Famous Cricketers No 95 - P.A.Perrin
representative match at Lord’s, Perrin reached a thousand runs for the season in mid-July during his Chesterfield innings, and finished eighth in the national batting averages. Although easily the leading run scorer for Essex, he was rather inconsistent, for he failed to reach double figures in twelve of his thirty-one innings. On the other hand he took centuries off four of the six top sides in the Championship. He prevented Yorkshire from winning with some ‘very skilful batting’ on the second day at Leeds when Essex were forced to follow on and were saved by heavy rain on the third. Following the Chesterfield game, after injuring a hand facing the pace of Walter Brearley at Old Trafford, he had a bad patch during which he scored 73 in only six innings, as well as missing two matches.
