ABOUT THE AUTHOR David Jeater was born at Brighton in 1944, is married with two adult children, and lives at Loughton, Essex. He joined the Association in 1981 and has written a variety of articles for its journal, mostly on county cricket. He was educated at Varndean Grammar School, Brighton and Hertford College, Oxford, where he read geography. After working in the computer industry, he undertook postgraduate studies in planning at University College, London. He became a chartered town planner in 1974, and has since worked in Perth, Western Australia, and in London mainly for public agencies. He played club cricket regularly, but only rarely successfully, until 1995, and admits to playing ‘one last game’ from time to time, trying to hide in the field at ‘gentleman's mid-on’.
