British Guiana played two games in Jamaica while Trinidad played two in Barbados. Jamaica won both of their games quite handily, largely because of Valentine’s brilliance. He claimed 13 wickets in the first match and 9 in the second. His 22 wickets then constituted a record for a cricket tournament in the West Indies. His match analysis of 13/164 in the first encounter has remained a record for Jamaica against Guyana to this day. Neville Bonitto and Ken Rickards batted very well for Jamaica. Rickards was selected for the Australasian tour but Bonitto was not. The Bonitto brothers, Colin and Neville, were very fine batsmen who simply had the ill fortune to emerge at the wrong time. In the end, the Jamaicans who accompanied John Goddard to Australia and New Zealand were Alan Rae, Rickards and Valentine. Robert Christiani and John Trim were the Guyanese players selected.
