He scored 56 against British Columbia in Vancouver and 76 against Ontario at Toronto. The Prudential World Cup was won by the West Indies by 17 runs in a pulsating final at Lord’s. Chappell had a poorish tournament scoring 121 runs in five matches at an average of 24.20. His performance on the first-class tour was much better as he hit four centuries and scored over one thousand runs and retained the Ashes. Against Glamorgan, Leicestershire and Northamptonshire he ceded the captaincy to brother Greg despite playing in the games himself. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 224.
