He took part in fourteen Championship games and showed he had not lost his touch by taking fifty-one wickets for 18.86 runs apiece. He had a particularly effective match against Kent at the Crabble ground at Dover when he took thirteen wickets in the game at a cost of 159 runs. He took six wickets in an innings against both Sussex and Warwickshire and five in an innings against Somerset. The author remembers watching him bowl at Worcester towards the end of the season and he looked far and away the best spin-bowler I had seen that year. He batted in eleven innings scoring just 43 runs at an average of 4.77 and he took five catches. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 415.
