It was to be his only cricketing visit to that country and he performed well taking twenty-four wickets in the matches that he played at an average of 15.79. He had match figures of ten for 121 against Wellington at Auckland and he took five for 44 in the first innings against Otago at Dunedin. Auckland won three of the four matches, losing to Canterbury at Christchurch in the only match in which Laker failed to make an impression as a bowler.
