In 34 first-class matches, Marshall registered 2,532 runs and averaged in excess of 40 runs per innings. Once again he combined with Jimmy Gray to form perhaps the most reliable opening pair in the country. At Bristol, against Gloucestershire in early May, they established a record for Hampshire when they put on 214 for the first wicket. Marshall’s contribution was a belligerent 150, his highest score for the season. He made his runs so quickly throughout the summer that his team was able to secure 26 bonus points, a total bettered by only one other county. He achieved four centuries and exceeded 50 runs on 19 other occasions. His match-winning 143 against Yorkshire at Bournemouth in early July was made in just under three hours and his whirlwind 133 against Oxford University a few days later came at almost a run a minute. His bowling continued to deteriorate and his 10 wickets came at more than 42 runs each. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 197.
