In two of them he represented the Commonwealth. He also played one game for the South of England against the North. His results were not spectacular. In 32 first-class matches, Marshall batted so consistently that he exceeded 2,000 runs with only three centuries to his credit. He scored 50 runs or more on 15 occasions and headed his team’s batting averages. His fielding also continued to be of the highest quality and he averaged one catch per match.
