1909/10 H.W.Taylor in his first season gave an idea of his strength of character by making 55 and 30 against the M.C.C. at Durban. Natal had a very strong team this season and went through the tournament unbeaten in six matches yet young Taylor fitted into the outfit very smoothly and opening the innings in each match made nearly 500 runs.
