Famous Cricketers No 88 - Herbert Wilfred Taylor
ran into a bad patch which lasted well into June, after which he was more like his old self and he had a great run of form in the later stages of the tour making double figures in eighteen consecutive innings. Even with this very uneven period of form he led the batting averages for the Tests and the tour as a whole. Against Derbyshire he made his 10,000th run of his career. It is interesting to note that Bames once more dismissed him in the match against Wales. When the tour had finished the team returned to South Africa aboard the S.S. Balmoral Castle .
