To some extent the previous tour of England seemed to have sapped Taylor’s strength and apart from 112 for South Africa at Durban he did little else and only averaged 21 runs an innings. For Natal in their two games he did much better with 58 at Pietermaritzburg and 49 and 34 at Durban.
