But F.T.Mann still had a very strong team and although South Africa won the First Test by a fair margin they fell away afterwards and suffered defeat. To Taylor it didn’t make much difference either way and he made a large century in the First Test, another at Johannesburg in the Fourth Test and a third at Durban in the Fifth Test. In between he had 68 and 91 and made 582 runs at an average of 64.66. E.P.Nupen who wrote an article in the second volume of the South African History by M.W.Luckin said “Taylor batted as only he and a few others can bat, scoring freely all round the wicket”. The Currie Cup did not take place but he played for Natal against the tourists where he scored 41. 13
