He bowled a lot of overs, 73 against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge and 53 against Lancashire at Headingley. He bowled more than 400 overs more than any other Yorkshire bowler in the Championship and only Dick Pollard and Len Muncer bowled more overs in the season than he did. His best analysis was eight for 87 against Derbyshire at Chesterfield. He took five wickets in an innings twelve times and twice he took ten wickets in a match - ten for 62 against Somerset at Harrogate and twelve for 160 in another marathon stint of 81.4 overs against Essex at Westcliff-on-Sea. He represented the Players against the Gentlemen at Lord’s and an England XI against County Champions, Glamorgan at Cardiff.
