An additional Test match was inserted into the touring programme in place of the return match against Victoria and played in Sydney starting on February 12th. With three recognised opening batsmen in the side, Edrich opted to drop down to third in the batting order below Boycott and Luckhurst but in the last three matches shared partnerships with Boycott of 162, 32, 161*, 107 and 103. He scored two centuries in the Test matches and had a tour average in Australia of 68.56. His 130 in the Adelaide Test lasted nearly six hours with 14 fours. In New Zealand, England played a two- match series. Edrich played in both matches but recorded very low scores.
