Coming straight from icy Britain the English players needed time to acclimatise themselves but Edrich opened in grand style with a century in the first match against Transvaal. Surrey finished 11th in the Championship. Edrich made his Test match debut this year playing in three Test matches against West Indies but he failed to impress, his highest score being 38. His two centuries during the season were both made at The Oval the second being for Surrey against the West Indians. 17
