In a purple spell from May 19 to July 7 he scored 1,046 runs in ten innings including a double century against Nottinghamshire. His score of 216 included 2 sixes and 33 fours and lasted five hours. Again he formed a good opening partnership with Micky Stewart, both of them accumulating 2,000 runs in the season.
