His haul of 20 wickets included 7-50 in the memorable final Test when he skittled out Australia after play, apparently against all the odds, was resumed after a thunderstorm. Despite missing nearly a third of the county programme through Test calls he nevertheless took 91 wickets for Kent including analyses of 7-17 against Hampshire and 7-28 against Glamorgan in successive matches.
