ABOUT THE AUTHORS Philip Crofton was born in India and educated at Tonbridge School, where he benefited from the coaching of Maurice Tate and J.G.Dewes, and Corpus Christi College, Oxford. In his youth he played for the Bluemantles in Kent and Dunfermline and the county of Fife in Scotland. He has written articles for The Cricketer and Cricket Lore . He retired recently after a 35-year career as a management consultant and lives with his wife in Tunbridge Wells, a short walk from the Nevill Cricket Ground. Kit Bartlett was a founder member of the ACS in 1973 and has contributed articles frequently to The Cricket Statistician over a number of years since Issue No 5. He has been an active researcher at both Colindale Newspaper Library and the Family Record Centre for many ACS publications. His previous books in the Famous Cricketer Series include Brian Close, Paul Gibb and Laurie Fishlock and co-authorship of Tom Hayward, Denis Compton, John Wisden and James Lillywhite junior. He has been Series Editor of the Famous Cricketer project since 1996 and a committee member of the ACS since 1995. Coincidentally, he also lives in Tunbridge Wells.
