1905 Gloucestershire were eighth equal in the 16-team Championship. Jessop was third in the County’s batting averages and second in their bowling list. He took 32 catches, a new seasonal record for him. J.D.Betham says of Jessop ‘Formerly member of the London Stock Exchange, now on the staff of The Daily Mail. 10 Kensington Square Mansions, London, W.’ He made 234 against Somerset at Bristol out of 346 in 155 minutes with 40 fours. He put on 125 for the 5th wicket with J.H.Board (49), 37 for the 6th with W.S.A.Brown (15), 77 for the 7th with T.Langdon (11) and 83 for the 8th with L.D.Brownlee (18). In the second innings against Lancashire at Old Trafford, Jessop made 57 out of 98 in 40 minutes off 12 overs with J.H.Board. In three of these overs the two of them made 45 runs, including 18 off the one bowled by W.Brearley. Jessop summoned up his previous bowling speed when he took 6 for 33 in the second innings against Sussex at Bristol. He took the first 5 wickets to fall, at a personal cost of 13 runs.
