ABOUT THE AUTHOR Hugh David Garrod was born in 1943, educated at Hengrove Comprehensive School, Bristol and Dover Boys’ Grammar. He went to Redland Teachers’ Training College, Bristol and has taught in Worcestershire, Swindon and then in Bedfordshire since 1970, with two Primary School Headships in Bedfordshire. He has been a member of Gloucestershire CCC since 1957 and a member of Dunstable and District Local History Society since its foundation in 1991, being Chairman since 1999. Since 1980, he has been a member of the congregation of the Priory Church, Dunstable, being a Churchwarden and serving on many of its committees. He has been a member of ACS since the mid-1970s. Hugh is married and has two grown children and two grandchildren.
