The season was highly successful both for Botham and for Queensland who reached the Sheffield Shield final before being beaten by Western Australia. Botham contributed 646 runs at an average of 34.00 with seven half-centuries. He took twenty-nine wickets at 27.75 and eighteen catches. It was a fine all-round performance and it was sad that it had to end in some disharmony as a result of events off the field. He took his 1,000th first-class wicket in the match at Launceston against Tasmania. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 315.
