Only in the fourth Test at Port-of-Spain, when he took five for 71 in West Indies’ first innings, can he be said to have performed at his best. England suffered another five-nil drubbing by what was then the World’s best team. Botham’s performances in the Tests were to score 168 runs at an average of 16.80 with a top score of 38 and to take eleven wickets at an average of 48.63. It was a tour best forgotten.
