In the other Test, England drew with Sri Lanka after conceding a first innings score of 491 for seven declared. Botham took six for 90 in the Sri Lankan second innings. Against West Indies he made three half centuries and twice took five wickets in an innings including eight for 103 in the West Indies’ first innings at Lord’s. In the Championship he scored 444 runs at an average of 31.71 and took thirty-three wickets at 20.93.
