In the Tests at New Delhi and Kanpur only one innings per side was completed. Botham scored 440 runs in the series at an average of 55.00 and took seventeen wickets at 38.82 in a high scoring series. He hit 142 in the Kanpur Test and took five for 61 at Bombay. England won the only Test match played against Sri Lanka by seven wickets. Botham hit another century in the match against Central Zone at Indore hitting 122 in just 55 minutes off 55 balls with seven 6s and sixteen 4s. He topped the Test batting averages but in a series generally dominated by the bat he took only eight wickets at an average of 65 in the last five Indian Tests. 27
