Famous Cricketers No 81 - C.W.L.Parker
1935 Parker’s last first-class season saw him take a hundred wickets for the sixteenth consecutive year. He finished with 103 in the Championship at an average of 24.54, bowling many fewer overs, 853, and benefitting from less work.He was, after all, now more than fifty years old. He took five wickets in an innings seven times, with his best figures coming against Leicestershire, another favourite opponent, against whom he took 7 for 49 at Gloucester in June. As a batsman he scored 256 runs in all matches at an average of 7.75 and he took four catches. Parker’s career aggregate of 3,278 wickets has been bettered only by W.Rhodes and A.P.Freeman and will surely not be approached again. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 610.
