Wisden records that he made an advance all round. He captured 65 wickets in the Championship which, whilst a long way short of Dennett’s 149, made him the second highest wicket taker for the county that season. He took five wickets in an innings against Kent twice and also against Worcestershire. Batting thirty-three times in all he scored 295 runs including a first Championship fifty. Batting at number eleven against Somerset at Gloucester he hit 51 not out in forty-five minutes, helping J.H.Huggins to 6
