Wisden states that he was mainly responsible for a weak side winning eight County matches that season. Amongst many outstanding performances, he achieved the best figures of his career to date, a haul of 9 for 35 against Leicestershire at Cheltenham - 14 for 57 in the match. He took five wickets or more in an innings ten times and on four occasions took ten wickets or more in a match. He took twenty-six wickets against Leicestershire in four innings and 12 for 107 against Somerset at Taunton. As a batsman he made only 171 runs in thirty-one innings, average 6.84, and he took eight catches. 23
