Famous Cricketers No 81 - C.W.L.Parker

Discrepancies with Wisden /Ledbetter Whilst researching this book I came across a number of discrepancies between the records of Parker’s career as recorded in the Gloucestershire scorebooks and records and those recorded in Wisden and in Jim Ledbetter’s “First-Class Season” books. In each case I have taken the Gloucestershire records as correct. The matches where differences appeared are: Match no 153 Scorebook states 76 runs in first innings, Wisden states 77. Match no 155 The scorebook states that R.Tydesley was out bowled, Wisden states caught and bowled. Match no 167 Scorebook states Parker took two wickets in second innings, Wisden states 3 although only two men are given as falling to Parker in the innings scorecard. Match no 170 Scorebook states 20 overs in first innings, Wisden states 19. Match no 194 Scorebook states 32 overs 10 maidens in first innings, Wisden states 23 overs 16 maidens. Match no 202 Scorebook states 4 maidens in second innings, Wisden states 6. Match no 254 Scorebook states 37.3 overs in first innings, Wisden states 37.2. Match no 337 Scorebook states 49 overs in first innings, Wisden states 49.1. Match no 367 Scorebook states 47.3 overs in first innings, Wisden states 47. Match no 407 Scorebook states 16.4 overs in second innings, Wisden states 16. Match no 448 Scorebook states 28.3 overs in second innings, Wisden states 38.3. Match no 451 Scorebook states 29 overs 11 maidens in second innings, Wisden states 39 overs 10 maidens. Match no 473 Scorebook and Wisden show Parker as bowled by M.S.Nichols in first innings, Ledbetter shows him as not out. Match no 506 Scorebook states 40.5 overs in first innings, Ledbetter and Wisden state 14.5. Match no 510 Scorebook states 20.4 overs in first innings, Ledbetter states 21.4. Match no 540 Scorebook states 18.2 overs in first innings, Ledbetter states 15.2. Match no 544 Scorebook states 29 overs in second innings, Ledbetter states 28. Note also: Match no 130 Other sources state A.S.Kennedy was caught A.E.Dipper b E.G.Dennett in the second innings. Wisden credits Parker with the wicket. Neither scorebook exists for this match. The Wisden version has been taken. This means that Parker’s career bowling does not agree with some other published sources. 112
