By this time Hampshire matches were no longer counted first-class and consequently, over the next seven seasons, Wynyard made only a handful of first-class appearances. Back home he immediately took his place in the Hampshire side which met Surrey at Kennington Oval in May and impressed everyone with an outstanding innings of 75 in an all out total of 132. His defensive play, especially against the great George Lohmann, was highly admired. Having made his mark, Wynyard went off to the Italian lakes as part of his convalescence but returned in late June. He did little in his two first-class matches (both for MCC) but for Hampshire he finished up with 327 runs average 21.80. In the return match against Surrey Wynyard was dismissed for a pair and so retrospectively may have been pleased that the match was not first-class, otherwise his record of never being out for two noughts in a first-class match would have been blemished. He represented the United Services against the touring Gentlemen of Canada at Portsmouth when he was lbw b E.R.Ogden 20; then also faced them in their next match when he played for the Gentlemen of Hampshire at Southampton where he was b C.J.Annand 63 and c Annand b A.Gillespie 9.
