However, it all ended in anticlimax in mid-afternoon on the first day when after sending down 18 overs without success, Hadlee suffered a torn calf muscle and did not bowl again for the rest of the series. Nevertheless, he still played an important part in the match with an innings of 37 which not only helped New Zealand avoid the follow-on but enabled the Kiwis later in the game to force a draw. 70
