Famous Cricketers No 79 - Richard Hadlee
generated great interest and Hadlee, once more, was in outstanding form. After rain ruined the First Test at Wellington, he did much to give New Zealand a memorable five-wicket win at Auckland. Hadlee finished with 5 for 63 in the second innings as Australia collapsed, losing their last six wickets for just 39 runs. At Christchurch Hadlee (6-100) bowled splendidly but Greg Chappell (176) ensured that Australia (353) were not dismissed cheaply. When New Zealand batted Hadlee scored 40 and shared a stand of 62 for the ninth wicket with Martin Snedden (32) which just failed to save the Kiwis from being forced to follow on. Australia won easily by eight wickets. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 153.
