Astonishingly, the Dunedin Test provided another one-wicket win for New Zealand - a week earlier they had won the One-day International by a similar margin - but also much acrimony from the West Indies players and a fine all-round performance by Hadlee. Only Desmond Haynes (55 and 105) resisted for long as Hadlee (11-102) caused the West Indies all kinds of problems in the match with the ball keeping low and moving off the seam. After just 30 minutes on the first day the West Indies were 4 for 3 – all three wickets to Hadlee!
