Coming in to bat when all seemed lost at 84 for 5, Hadlee (70*) transformed his side’s fortunes with an exciting innings to snatch the Trophy from Northamptonshire’s grasp. Facing 61 balls, he hit two sixes and four fours, and shared stands of 62 for the sixth wicket with Rice (63) and 75 in only eight overs for the seventh wicket with Bruce French (35). Furthermore, Hadlee finished the match in glorious fashion by driving the second ball of the last over high and straight over long-off for six and then pulled the next ball for four backward of square to the Tavern boundary. Hadlee’s last match for Nottinghamshire was the Refuge Assurance League game against Surrey at The Oval on September 13. Nottinghamshire won this match and thus Hadlee, appropriately, ended his career with the Trent Bridge side on a winning note. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 274.
