In the Benson and Hedges Cup he played a big part in Nottinghamshire’s progress to the final. Against Warwickshire he made 70 and with Basharat Hassan (99*) shared a stand of 125 for the fifth wicket in only 22 overs after the Trent Bridge side had been reduced to 30 for 4. Hadlee then sent back both Warwickshire openers. Another fine all-round display by Hadlee and another victory, this time against Lancashire. In this game Hadlee made 56, with one six and five fours, and then took 3 for 39 in his eleven overs. Then against the same opponents in the semi-final, Hadlee (55*) played another attacking innings. Nottinghamshire, needing 183 to win, were 116 for 6 but Hadlee, once again, responded to the challenge by staying for 78 minutes and seeing his side home by four wickets. However, Hadlee and Nottinghamshire disappointed when they appeared in their first Lord’s Final, and the Trent Bridge side were comprehensively beaten by Somerset. At Cheltenham, Hadlee made 100 not out in the John Player League game against Gloucestershire. Striking three sixes and ten fours, he put on 96 for the 111
