However, New Zealand still lost this game by five runs but nevertheless went on to qualify for the best-of-five finals against Australia. In the first of these games Hadlee returned fine figures of 8.3-4-26-5, dismissing both openers cheaply and Kim Hughes for a duck, before coming back to dispose of the tail.
