Famous Cricketers No 78 - Bruce Mitchell

1929 – South Africa in England Mitchell made the first of his three tours to England this year when only twenty years of age. In first-class matches he made 1,615 runs average 32.95 and was the leading run scorer ahead of I.J.Siedle with 1,579. In Test matches he made 251 average 31.37. On his debut in Test cricket at Edgbaston he had opening partnerships with R.H.Catterall of 119 in the first innings and 171 in the second. Altogether he batted for 575 minutes his 88 in the first innings taking seven hours. He made his first career hundred against Yorkshire at Bramall Lane.
