Of his ten dismissals this season six were accomplished by the combination of wicket-keeper, S.C.Griffith and A.V.Bedser. He once more stood at the helm making 475 runs in the Test series becoming one of the statistics of the game - a batsman falling on 99 in a Test match. This innings occupied 394 minutes and he took 253 minutes over his fifty which at one time was the slowest for South Africa in a Test match. At the age of 39 years and 362 days he made 120 in the drawn Third Test at Cape Town. 24
