With nearly 600 runs at 72 an innings and 31 wickets at a fraction over 15 he had a tremendous season. He made 114 and 77 not out against Western Province at Johannesburg, missed out against Griqualand West and then in successive games made 40 and 103 not out v Orange Free State and 58 and 108 against Natal at Durban. With the ball he consistently took wickets and had 8 for 128 in the Natal match and 10 for 95 (6 for 33 and 4 for 62) against Border at East London. 17
