Wisden described Murdoch’s batting for London County as “consistency itself”. In the second innings of the opening fixture Grace (97) and Murdoch, with a combined age of over 100 and no longer exactly greyhounds over twenty-two yards, added 126 in 90 minutes for the third wicket. A fortnight later they staged a repeat putting on 120 for the first wicket in approximately the same time for MCC v Lancashire during which Murdoch scored the faster and hit a six over the sightscreen. The venerable pair also shared opening partnerships of 75 and 57 in their two matches against All Ireland. Murdoch’s best of the season was 132 for London County again Leicestershire, scored in 150 minutes and including 15 fours. With C.P.McGahey, a man with a not dissimilar outlook on life but lacking the financial cushion to indulge it, he put on 157 for the third wicket. With C.J.B.Wood (56) he added 97 for the second wicket for London County v Derbyshire at Derby. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct St Total Total 357.
