Famous Cricketers No 76 - J.N.Crawford
1912/13 – in Australia Crawford played in his second Sheffield Shield winning combination. He opened the season in fine form with the ball in a non-Shield encounter with Western Australia, taking 11-71 (including a first innings hat-trick) at Adelaide Oval and saw his team-mate, and former St. Peter’s College student, A.G. ‘Johnny’ Moyes make a century on debut. Thereafter he made important contributions with either bat or ball in the remaining matches. Crawford’s most spectacular performance was in the last match of the season against Victoria at the Oval when he blasted 163 in 177 minutes in the first innings and then took 8-66 in the first innings of his opponents, and nine wickets for the match.
