He failed with the bat but on both occasions bowled well taking five wickets in each encounter. In the former game he took all the wickets that fell. On July 10-11 he became one of the very few amateurs to play for a professional eleven when he appeared for the “United” against XV Undergraduates of Oxford and Cambridge although he could score only two in each innings.
