Famous Cricketers No 75 - Arthur Haygarth

1849 Haygarth returned to face the Players probably on the strength of a score of 71 in a non-first-class match at Lord’s, for a side got up by Viscount Mountgarret on June 4, coupled with a typical innings for M.C.C. against Sussex where he batted for 3¼ hours. The match of July 9-10 was Haygarth’s 50th two-day match. In 1849 he played in a total of 15 games and scored 273 runs with an average of 11.38. He took a catch in the match of May 29-30 whilst fielding as substitute for his opponents. The victim was Tom Box caught off the bowling of William Lillywhite. It should be noted that the location of the match played on August 30-31 would now be referred to as Leamington Spa but this was not the case at the time. Own Team O M R W Opp Ct Total Total 36.
