Firstly, for M.C.C. against The North, he batted a total of 3 hours 20 minutes in a low scoring game. Following this his unbeaten 39 for Gentlemen of England v Gentlemen of Kent, which took a similar time, saw his side home. Haygarth was presented with a new ball for his efforts in the latter game. In July Haygarth was selected for the first time for the Gentlemen and his second innings score, which took 3½ hours (4 hours according to some sources) and included a long stand against the fastest bowling of the day, with C.G. Taylor, enabled his side to win the contest which more often than not eluded them. During this innings Haygarth was hit severely on the head by Hillyer but he continued without assistance. As can be seen below he played in the special match staged in honour of Nicholas Felix. He also played four non-first-class matches, one for a side got up by Robert Grimston, his former cricket tutor, where he scored 21 runs. In all he hit 144 runs averaging just 7.58.
