He spent the night in hospital having suffered a fractured cheek bone, but returned to the crease in the morning to score 20. The next week in the return match at Northampton, he scored a century. Edrich was only selected for one Test match this year but still averaged over 40 for Middlesex in the County Championship where the county finished seventh. He scarcely bowled this season.
