After celebrating Godfrey Evans’ Test match century well into the night, Edrich fell out with selector Bob Wyatt and was reported to Lord’s. This effectively halted his England career until 1953. He was never offered the captaincy of England which bitterly disappointed both him and his family. He scored over 1,000 runs for Middlesex in the championship but did much less bowling. It was a disappointing season for Middlesex who finished in fourteenth place in the Championship.
