Famous Cricketers No 73 - Sonny Ramadhin

Indian record for one season in that country. Ramadhin was only the second West Indian native, following S.G.Smith of Trinidad, to exceed 500 wickets and was the first to claim 150 in Test cricket. Many of Ramadhin’s West Indian bowling records have been surpassed by Guyana’s Lance Gibbs, but he still ranks as the second most effective spin bowler thus far produced by the West Indies, a region better known for its galaxy of fast bowlers. As the first player of East Indian ancestry to represent the West Indies, he became at once (and has ever since remained) an important role model for Indo-Caribbean cricketers. He is also a vital source of inspiration to underprivileged youth everywhere.
